Here Lies Love, which tells the story of Imelda Marcos' rise to power and subsequent fall at the hands of the Philippine People Power Revolution, was developed and is directed by Tony winner Alex Timbers, with choreography by Olivier nominee Annie-B Parson. Opening night at the Broadway is set for July 20.
The new musical, which premiered at Off-Broadway's Public in 2013, transforms the Broadway into a dance club, where the audience is immersed in the story on the dance floor or in traditional theatre seating.
The show features the first all-Filipino cast to perform on Broadway: Arielle Jacobs (In the Heights, Aladdin) as Imelda Marcos, Jose Llana (The King and I, The 25th Annual Putnam Country Spelling Bee) as Ferdinand Marcos, Conrad Ricamora (The King and I, Soft Power) as Ninoy Aquino, Melody Butiu, Moses Villarama, Jasmine Forsberg, Reanne Acasio, Jaygee Macapugay, Julia Abueva, Renée Albulario, Aaron Alcaraz, Carol Angeli, Nathan Angelo, Kristina Doucette, Roy Flores, Timothy Matthew Flores, Sarah Kay, Jeigh Madjus, Aaron "AJ" Mercado, Geena Quintos, Shea Renne, and Angelo Soriano.
Tony and Olivier winner Lea Salonga, also one of the musical's producers, will join the cast for a special guest engagement this summer, performing July 11-August 13 as Aurora Aquino, Ninoy Aquino's mother.
The production also has scenic design by Tony nominee David Korins, costume design by Tony winner Clint Ramos, lighting design by Tony winner Justin Townsend, sound design by M.L. Dogg and Cody Spencer, projection design by Tony nominee Peter Nigrini, casting by Tara Rubin, Xavier Rubiano, and Gail Quintos, general management by Foresight Theatrical, music direction by J. Oconer Navarro, assistant direction by Billy Bustamante, assistant choreography by Renée Albulario, and Philippines casting consulting by Bobby Garcia.
Gregory T. Livoti is the production stage manager, and Ryan Gohsman and Sheryl Polancos are the assistant stage managers. Giselle “G” Töngi is the show’s cultural and community liaison.
