Tony winners Hugh Jackman (The Music Man) and Jodie Comer (Prima Facie) will co-star in a new screen version of the Robin Hood legend, penned by Michael Sarnoski (Pig), who will also direct. The film is a project of Lyrical Media and Ryder Picture Company.

Titled The Death of Robin Hood, the film depicts the final days of the robber outlaw, who finds himself seriously injured and under the care of a mysterious woman offering a chance at salvation. Production is expected to begin in February 2025.

“This is not the story of Robin Hood we've all come to know,” say Aaron Ryder and Andrew Swett of Ryder in a join statement. “Instead, Michael has crafted something far more grounded and visceral. Thanks to Alexander Black and our friends at Lyrical along with Rama and Michael, the world is going to love seeing Hugh and Jodie together in this epic.”

Jackman is a two-time Tony honoree, winning Best Leading Actor in a Musical in 2004 for his Broadway debut performance as Peter Allen in The Boy From Oz and a 2012 Special Tony in recognition of his concert engagement Hugh Jackman, Back on Broadway. Jackman is returning to the superhero role later this year with Deadpool & Wolverine, releasing July 26.

Comer is primarily a screen star, leading Killing Eve for the BBC and the TV film Help. She made her West End debut in 2022's Prima Facie, and brought the performance to Broadway the following year. Comer won both the Olivier and Tony Awards for her performance in the Suzie Miller-penned solo play.

Lyrical Media is financing The Death of Robin Hood. Ryder and Swett will produce for Ryder Picture Company with Black producing for Lyrical Media. Lyrical’s Jon Rosenberg and Natalie Sellers will executive produce with Rama Gottumukkala, Sarnoski, and Jackman.
