The Broadway Green Alliance and Times Square Alliance will present the second annual Broadway Celebrates Earth Day concert April 22 from 10 AM-3 PM in Times Square on Broadway between 45th and 46th Streets, kicking off the NYC Department of Transportation's Car-Free Earth Day.

The performance will also be live-streamed via Seth Rudetsky and James Wesley's award-winning streaming series Stars in the House, co-hosted by Rudetsky, Wesley, and Tony nominee Anika Larsen (Beautiful, Almost Famous).

Currently scheduled to perform are Philippe Arroyo (& Juliet), Mara Davi (A Chorus Line), Jordan Dobson (Bad Cinderella), Laurel Harris (Jagged Little Pill), Alli Mauzey (Kimberly Akimbo), Michael James Scott (Aladdin), Jason Tam (Be More Chill), and Alysha Umphress (On The Town), with more to be announced. Young performers from across the region will also take the stage in the afternoon, including students from Cassie Okenka Voice Studio, Epic Players, Marymount Manhattan College, New York City Children’s Theatre, Perkiomen Valley High School, R.Evolución Latina, and Wolf Performing Arts Center.

David Alpert serves as the director of the event, and Rick Hip-Flores provides musical accompaniment.

“The Times Square Alliance is thrilled to once again partner with the Broadway Green Alliance and the Department of Transportation to present a free Earth Day concert in the heart of Times Square as part of Car-Free Earth Day,” says Tom Harris, president of the Times Square Alliance. “Broadway has been a leader in providing more space to pedestrians and [we] look forward to joining all the other neighborhoods down Broadway and throughout the five boroughs as we all celebrate our public spaces and the great programming we can bring to them.”

"So often we artists feel powerless when it comes to enacting global change and shifts in government policies, but in using our collective voice to shed light on the issues affecting all of us, specifically climate justice, we can push the needle to make the world a better place," adds director Alpert. "As always, I'm honored to work with Molly Braverman and the Broadway Green Alliance in creating this concert, and thankful to not just our superstar Broadway performers, but to all of the performers and crew for helping change the world through showtunes and calls to action."

Leading up to the concert, the Broadway Green Alliance is also hosting a free Textile Recycling Drive April 12 from 11 AM-2 PM in the center of Duffy Square. In partnership with Wearable Collections, the recycling drive is open to all shows, theatres, industry members, fans, and neighbors as part of a collective effort to reduce textile waste. Items accepted during the drive include used and clean clothing, shoes, curtains, hats, linens, towels, handbags, and belts. The effort will not accept pillows, comforters, rugs/carpets, large luggage items, other household goods, and fabric/fabric scraps.

The Broadway Green Alliance, which was launched in 2008, educates, motivates, and inspires the theatre community and its patrons to implement environmentally friendlier practices. The BGA is an ad hoc committee of The Broadway League and is a fiscal program of Broadway Cares.
