Broadway Records releases a studio cast album of My Heart Says Go, a new musical with music and lyrics by Jorge Rivera-Herrans and written and directed by Matt Hawkins, May 5. The recording is available on all digital platforms.
The starry cast includes Javier Muñoz (Hamilton), Tony winner Jessie Mueller (Waitress), Rubén J. Carbajal, Erica Ito, Aurelia Williams, Jared Goldsmith, John Cardoza, Mili Diaz, Cailen Fu, and Eric Peters.
The story follow Indigo, a first-generation college student who defies his father and drops out of medical school with hopes of becoming a singer-songwriter. The work was workshopped and produced through the New Works Lab at Notre Dame and is being funded by Notre Dame Research. The album is made possible by the University of Notre Dame and Apples and Oranges Studio.
"The driving force behind this entire project has been accessibility," says Hawkins in a statement. "Let’s make art more accessible for audiences AND more accessible for artists who want to make the art. If you want to produce this musical, you can. The hope is to create accessibility by being able to produce new work from the ground up. High schools and community theatres will be able to license the musical."
Geoffrey Ko is music director, with Hawkins, Rivera-Herrans, Ko, and Christopher Sepulveda serving as producers.
