Broadway News Lin-Manuel Miranda Is Just Trying to Keep Up With John Kander in New York, New York

The Hamilton scribe talks about how the new Kander and Ebb musical, on which he's contributed lyrics, is a love letter to New York.

A new video interview from Tony- and Pulitzer-winning theatre maker Lin-Manuel Miranda is just adding to our ever-growing anticipation for this season's brand new Kander and Ebb musical. New York, New York, which begins previews March 24 at the St. James Theatre, features a score by composer John Kander and the late lyricist Fred Ebb, with additional lyrics by Miranda.

Miranda met composer Kander in 2007, before Miranda's first musical In the Heights had even met it to Broadway. The two became fast friends and after writing a song together, Kander reached out to Miranda about a new show he was working on with director Susan Stroman...New York, New York. "I kind of became the lyric fix-it guy," Miranda says in the video. "I've never written as fast as I write with John, because I'm trying to keep up with John Kander. No one's hands are faster at the piano."

Check out the video above, in which Miranda talks about his friendship with Kander, his love for Kander and Ebb's works, and how the new musical is a love letter to New York and all the dreamers in it.

Colton Ryan and Anna Uzele will lead the cast, which also includes Clyde Alves, John Clay III, Janet Dacal, Ben Davis, Oliver Prose, Angel Sigala, and Tony Award nominee Emily Skinner.

The musical is being directed and choreographed by five-time Tony winner Susan Stroman, with the book (reportedly only loosely based on the Scorsese-directed film) by David Thompson and Sharon Washington.
