Paper Mill Playhouse opens its production of On Your Feet! The Story of Emilio & Gloria Estefan October 9. Previews begin October 7 at the Tony-winning regional theatre, which has set a run through November 6.
Linedy Genao (On Your Feet!), recently announced to be leading the Broadway debut of Andrew Lloyd Webber's upcoming new musical Bad Cinderella, stars as Gloria opposite Brandon Espinoza (SpongeBob SquarePants) as Emilio. The biomusical explores how music legends Emilio and Gloria, two Cuban immigrants from Miami, fell in love and worked to rise above personal family struggles while pursuing the dream of bringing their Latin sound to mainstream American music.
Genao and Webber are joined in the cast by Francisca Muñoz (Our Lady Lupe) as Gloria Fajardo, and Yajaira Paredes (Clue) as Consuelo. Sharing the role of Little Gloria are Olivia Andrade-Marin and Natalia Artigas (Disney’s Frozen), joined by Carlos Carreras (On Your Feet!) as Nayib/Young Emilio/Jeremy.
Jonathan Arana, Mike Baerga, Brigitte Beach, Arthur Joseph Cuadros, Nicholas Cunha, Rubén Flores, Gabriela García, Diego Guevara, Rachel Josefina, Kyle Laing, Ángel Lozada, Risa Nicole, Vincent Ortega, Alexa Racioppi, Janina Rosa, Stefanie Renee Salyers, Vanessa Sierra, Luis Villabon, and Sarah Waite comprise the ensemble.
Oscar winner Alexander Dinelaris (Birdman, The Bodyguard) penned the book. The musical features a score comprising music produced and recorded by Emilio and Gloria Estefan and Miami Sound Machine, including hits from the couple's discography such as “Rhythm is Gonna Get You,” “Conga,” and “1-2-3."
Director-choreographer Alex Sanchez (Giant) helms the creative team which features music director Andrew David Sotomayor (Tootsie), Tony-winning scenic designer David Rockwell (Into the Woods), Tony-nominated costume designer Emilio Sosa (The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess), lighting designer Charlie Morrison (Songs for a New World), sound designer Matt Kraus (Jim Henson’s Emmet Otter’s Jug-Band Christmas), projection designer Darrel Maloney (The Cher Show), costume coordinator Antonio Consuegra (Funny Girl), and hair and wig designer Marcus Lopez (On Your Feet!). Consuegra provides additional costume designs, while Jeffrey Rodriguez serves as production stage manager. Casting is by Bass/Valle Casting.
