Ann Kittredge sings a never-before-recorded trunk song by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty in the video above. "Garden," a standalone song initially written by the Ragtime and Seussical writing duo for cabaret and Broadway favorite Karen Akers, is included on Kittredge's recently released album, Romantic Notions. Listen to the track above in a newly released music video featuring illustrations by Taylor Morgan.
Ahrens and Flaherty thought to give the unused song to Kittredge in 2018 as she was putting together a tribute concert for the pair with Andrea Marcovicci and Alex Rybeck. The song reportedly was never intended for a musical, but rather a revue or concert setting.
Kittredge will celebrate the May 7 release of Romantic Notions with a concert evening at Birdland Theater May 14. Music director Christopher Denny will accompany on piano, leading a band that will also include guitarist Sean Harkness, bass player Mary Ann McSweeney, and drummer Rex Benincasa. They will be joined by special guest Aaron Heick on saxophone. Barry Kleinbort is directing.
Romantic Notions is a follow-up to Kittredge's debut album re-IMAGINE, and is produced by Paul Rolnick. The 12-track song list includes songs by Stevie Wonder, Carole King, Stephen Sondheim, Steven Lutvak, and more.
