Gently Down the Steam, the new play from Bent playwright Martin Sherman that examines inter-generational relationships in the gay community and the evolution of LGBT rights within the last 50 years, will receive its U.K. premiere in February 2019.
In Gently Down the Stream, Beau, a pianist expat living in London at the dawn of the internet dating revolution, begins a relationship with Rufus, an eccentric young lawyer played by Ebert. The play had its world premiere Off-Broadway at the Public Theater in 2017, starring Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein. Tony Award nominee Sean Mathias, who helmed the Off-Broadway premiere, will also direct the London production that runs February 13–March 16 at the Park Theatre. Opening night is set for February 18.
Casting will be announced at a later date. Lee Newby will design the set.
Robert Fox and Alex Turner produce the London premiere that is set to commemorate the Sherman’s 80th birthday and the 40th anniversary of Bent’s London world premiere.
