Classic Arts News MasterVoices to Perform NYC Premiere of Doug Varone's To My Arms / Restore

The two-part work with music by Handel and Nico Bentley will be performed at NYU Skirball Center in March.

Continuing its 2023-24 season MasterVoices will reunite with choreographer Doug Varone to perform the New York City premiere of To My Arms / Restore, March 22-23 at NYU Skirball Center. Varone has previously collaborated with MasterVoices on concert presentations of Lady In The Dark, and Dido and Aeneas.

The first part of the two-part work, To My Arms, features eight dancers dancing to Handel arias performed by five soloists and musicians from New York Baroque Incorporated. The second part, Restore, will feature the same, plus the MasterVoices chorus singing Handel's Dixit Dominus, as reimagined by Festival Voices and Nico Bentley, using modern club beats to create Handel Remixed. MasterVoices Artistic Director Ted Sperling conducts.

MasterVoices' 2023-24 season kicked off in November with a concert presentation of Stephen Sondheim Burt Shevelove, and Nathan Lane's The Frogs, and will conclude April 17 with a Ricky Ian Gordon and Michael Korie's operatic adaptation of The Grapes Of Wrath at Carnegie Hall.
