News Matthew McConaughey to Star as Theatre-Loving, Dapper Koala in New Universal Film According to Deadline, Matthew McConaughey will star in Universal's new animated film "Sing." The Oscar winner is set to be the voice of Buster Moon, a dashing koala who stages the world's greatest singing competition in an attempt to save his beloved theatre.

Deadline reports that the film is slated for release Dec. 21, 2016, and that the soundtrack will feature over 85 hit songs. The project is being penned and helmed by "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" director Garth Jennings.

Joining McConaughey will be Seth MacFarlane as the voice of a con-artist mouse; Tori Kelly as a shy teenage elephant who suffers from stage fright; Reese Witherspoon as the overworked mother of 25 piglets; Taron Egerton as a young gorilla from a crime family; and Scarlett Johansson as a punk-rock porcupine looking for a solo career.

Chris Meledandri and Janet Healy are reportedly producing.
