An A-list roster of Broadway stars takes part in the American Theatre Wing's 2023 gala September 11 at Cipriani 42nd Street. The evening honors Unsung Heroes of the Theatre Industry, members of the theatrical community who don’t often get the recognition they deserve.

Scheduled to perform are Leslie Odom, Jr., Melissa Etheridge, Tituss Burgess, Justin Guarini, Shoshana Bean, Brandon Victor Dixon, LaChanze, Judy Kuhn, Lilli Cooper, Chuck Cooper, and Eddie Cooper. Jason Michael Webb is the director and musical director with Leigh Silverman as creative consultant.

Along with performing, the stars will spotlight their own personal unsung heroes. Those celebrated include dressers, understudies and swings, makeup artists, and other contributors to the theatrical art form.

The evening includes cocktails, dinner, and performances. The black-tie celebration also features special appearances by Tony honoree Julie Halston and animal trainer Bill Berloni.

Proceeds benefit such ATW programs as The Andrew Lloyd Webber Initiative, The Jonathan Larson Grants, and Springboard to Design, as well as the production of ATW’s Masterclass Series.

The American Theatre Wing—founder and co-presenter (with The Broadway League) of the Tony Awards and the home to the Obie Awards—is a not-for-profit organization founded on the eve of America’s entry into WWI by seven suffragists and theatre makers to support the nation by harnessing the power of theatre. ATW’s work continues to be driven by the belief that theatre is essential to the economic, educational, and social and emotional well-being of society.
