The New York premiere of Quiara Alegría Hudes and Erin McKeown’s new musical Miss You Like Hell officially opens April 10 at the Public Theater Off-Broadway. Leading the cast of the mother-daughter odyssey, directed by Lear deBessonet, are Daphne Rubin-Vega and Gizel Jiménez.
Miss You Like Hell tells the story of undocumented immigrant Beatriz (Rubin-Vega), on the road trip of a lifetime with her estranged 16-year-old daughter, Olivia (Jiménez). Along the way the two make new friends and uncover the depths of each other's pasts.
The musical began performances Off-Broadway March 20 and is scheduled to continue through May 6.
Completing the cast are Marinda Anderson (Ensemble), Danny Bolero (Manuel), Andrew Cristi (Ensemble), Latoya Edwards (Pearl), Shawna M. Hamic (Ensemble), Marcus Paul James (Ensemble), David Patrick Kelly (Higgins), and Michael Mulheren (Mo).
Miss You Like Hell had its world premiere at La Jolla Playhouse in 2016 starring Rubin-Vega as Beatriz.
The musical features a book and lyrics by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Hudes (In the Heights, Water by the Spoonful) and music by singer-songwriter McKeown.
