Motown Creator Bringing BeBe and CeCe Winans' Story to the Stage | Playbill

News Motown Creator Bringing BeBe and CeCe Winans' Story to the Stage Motown director Charles Randolph-Wright has been announced to direct the world-premiere stage musical Born for This: The BeBe Winans Story at the Alliance Theatre in Atlanta, GA.

The gospel musical, slated to run Jan. 20-Feb. 14, 2016, was announced as part of the Alliance's 2015-16 season. The show will feature music by BeBe Winans. It is a co-production with the Arena Stage in Washington, D.C.

Here's how it's billed: "Detroit natives BeBe and CeCe Winans, youngest siblings of the Winans family dynasty, experience the ultimate in culture shocks when invited to join Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker's Praise The Lord network television show. The teenaged Winans become not only television celebrities, but also the 'adopted children' of the Bakkers, integrating TV evangelism in Pinewood, North Carolina. As BeBe and CeCe encounter fame, fortune and even a young Whitney Houston, BeBe must learn to balance his desire for success with his true calling."

Another world premiere on deck is Mike Lew's Tiger Style!, directed by Moritz von Stuelpnagel (Hand to God). The comedy about sparring siblings will run Sept. 30-Oct. 18, 2015. According to the Alliance, "Star students and squabbling siblings Albert and Jennifer Chen used to represent the pinnacle of adolescent achievement. When it comes to adulthood, they’re epic failures. Albert's just been passed up for promotion and Jennifer's been dumped by her loser boyfriend. So they do what any reasonable egghead brother and sister would do and go on an Asian Freedom Tour! Travelling from California to China, Tiger Style! embraces the inner slacker and the outer tiger parent in all of us."

The season also includes Dale Wasserman's One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (Sept. 2-20); Keith Huff's A Steady Rain (Sept. 18-Oct. 11); Arlen Konopaki and Kevin Gillese's Merry %#!*ing Christmas (Nov. 27-Dec. 19); Eleanor Burgess' Start Down (Feb. 13-March 6, 2016); Terry Burrell's Ethel (March 27-April 27); and Ayad Ahktar's Pulitzer-winning drama Disgraced (April 12-May 1).
