Great British Bake Off: The Musical

Ready your proving drawers and soggy bottoms, because a new musical inspired by the long-running U.K. hit reality competition series The Great British Bake Off will open at Everyman Theatre in Cheltenham July 21.

Endorsed and created in association with executive producer Richard McKerrow and the producers of the TV series, Love Productions, Great British Bake Off The Musical features a book and lyrics by Jake Brunger and music and lyrics by Pippa Cleary. The duo previously collaborated on The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole, Aged 13¾ and Red Riding Hood.

The musical comedy, like the TV program, will follow amateur bakers as they compete to impress two iconic judges and battle their way to be crowned champion Star Baker. The eight bakers will be joined on stage by a pair of witty presenters and esteemed judges.

Rachel Kavanaugh will direct with designs by Alice Power. Casting will be announced.

Mark Goucher, who produces alongside McKerrow, said in a statement, “The TV phenomenon Great British Bake Off gets to the heart of the nation, and for a long time I felt that it could work wonderfully well on the stage. We started working on the production a couple of years ago and with this talented creative team and in association with the TV show’s creator I hope we have created a musical comedy that will win over our audiences here at the Everyman Theatre.”
