Regional News New Casting Announced for Broadway-Aimed Sing Street

The musical, which enjoyed a sold out run Off-Broadway in 2019, will play Boston's Huntington Theatre.

Sing Street, which had its Broadway bow stymied by the COVID-19 pandemic, has announced a new lineup ahead of its Boston debut at The Huntington. Set in Dublin, 1982, Sing Street follows eighteen year old Conor Lawlor as he and his schoolmates escape their troubles through music and stumble headfirst into first love. The musical will play The Huntington's Calderwood Pavilion August 26 through October 2.

The company will include Adam Bregman as Conor Lawlor, Michael Lepore as Gary, Courtnee Carter as Raphina, Billy Carter as Robert Lawlor, Dónal Finn as Brendan Lawlor, Alexa Xioufaridou Moster as Anne Lawlor, Dee Roscioli as Penny Lawlor, Jack DiFalco as Barry Bray, Anthony Genovesi as Declan, Diego Lucano as Darren Mulvey, Elijah Lyons as Larry, Anne L. Nathan as Sandra, Gian Perez as Kevin, Armand Schultz as Brother Baxter, and Ben Wang as Eamon. The understudies for the production will be Gable Kinsman, Ale Philippides, and Virginia Vogel.

Based on the 2016 indie film of the same name by John Carney, the musical features music and lyrics by Gary Clark and Carney, and a book by Tony winner Edna Walsh. Tony winner Rebecca Taichman will direct the production, and Tony and Obie winner Sonya Tayeh will choreograph.

Sing Street will also feature scenic design by seven-time Tony Award winner Bob Crowley (Once, An American in Paris), costume design by Crowley and Lisa Zinni (Freestyle Love Supreme), lighting design by seven-time Tony winner Natasha Katz (Once, Frozen), sound design by Tony and Grammy Award winner & Olivier Award nominee Peter Hylenski (Moulin Rouge!), video design by Luke Halls (The Lehman Trilogy) and Brad Peterson (West Side Story), and hair and makeup design by Tommy Kurzman (Mrs. Doubtfire). Music supervision is by Peter Gordeno and Kris Kukul (Beetlejuice), Fred Lassen (Prince of Broadway) is music director, with casting by Tara Rubin Casting. The production stage manager is Karyn Meek, and the stage manager is Amanda Spooner.
