News New Musical Cagney, Starring Robert Creighton, Replaces Harold and Maude on the York Theatre Company Schedule The new musical Cagney, about legendary screen star James Cagney, has replaced the New York premiere of Harold and Maude on the York Theatre Company's season roster due to a scheduling conflict.

Cagney, which features a book by Peter Colley and music and lyrics by Robert Creighton and Christopher McGovern, will begin previews at the Off-Broadway venue May 19. The limited engagement will continue through June 22.

Bill Castellino will direct with choreography by Joshua Bergasse.

Co-writer Creighton will star as James Cagney; additional casting will be announced.

Cagney, according to press notes, "follows the legendary actor from his humble beginnings in New York City's Lower East Side through his rise as a vaudeville song-and-dance man to his superstardom in Hollywood. In this insightful and surprising musical journey, filled with original show-stopping song and dance numbers in addition to George M. Cohan songs from the classic films 'Yankee Doodle Dandy,' and others, Cagney is a musical tribute to the tap dancing gangster who thrilled audiences all over the world. He was the consummate performer who could do it all – sing, dance, play the bad guy, the good guy, the patriot, the gangster."
