The musical comedy NEWSical is heading to Las Vegas. The production is slated to run for a three-week engagement beginning April 1 at the Majestic Repertory Theatre.
The limited engagement will feature Emmy winner Kristen Alderson (Broadway’s Annie), NEWSical original cast member Michael West (Forbidden Broadway), Taylor Crousore (A Musical About Star Wars), and Carly Sakolove (The Book of Merman).
NEWSical has been recognized as the fifth longest-running Off-Broadway musical and won the Off-Broadway Alliance Award for Best Musical in 2011. The show satirizes current events, intertwining comedy with politics, entertainment, and the latest social media talk.
The musical teases that the 75-minute shows will change daily and take a few jabs at the local political scene—"what happens in Vegas, ends up on the NEWSical stage." In the past, NEWSical has been joined by a variety of celebrity guests, including La Toya Jackson, Perez Hilton, Queer Eye for the Straight Guy's Carson Kressley, Emmy winner Jackée Harry, and previous Saturday Night Live cast member Cheri Oteri.
NEWSical is created by and written by Rick Crom (Urinetown) with direction by Mark Waldrop (When Pigs Fly), and music direction by Ed Goldschneider (Urinetown). It is produced by Drama Desk nominee Tom D'Angora (Caroline, or Change).
NEWSical will run April 1 through April 24 at the Majestic Repertory Theatre. For more information, visit NEWSicalTheMusical.com.
