Big bucks were raised at a post-show Broadway Cares fundraiser over at The Music Man November 26, with film star (and one-time Broadway alumNicole Kidman bidding six figures for Hugh Jackman's straw hat worn during the performance. Kidman's $100,000 donation is the largest-ever single donation from any auction in the history of Broadway Cares, and follows The Music Man's all-time fundraising record of $2,071,806 during the spring campaign earlier this year, according to the theatrical non-profit.

"That’s 20,000 meals and 2,000 doctor visits this holiday season for those living with HIV/AIDS, struggling with COVID-19 or facing other life-threatening challenges," says Broadway Cares.

Jackman is of course no stranger to breaking fundraising records with Broadway Cares while performing on Broadway. The two-time Tony winner has been bringing in historic sums since his Broadway debut in 2003's The Boy From Oz, auctioning off his show undershirts to ravenous fans. During the run of his 2011 Broadway concert Hugh Jackman, Back on Broadway, he raised a then-record $1.8 million during post-show auctions. Undershirts were up for sale during that run too, nightly nabbing between $5,000 and $25,000, a total Jackman often doubled by offering a second to the runner-up bidder.

Broadway Cares is one of the nation’s leading industry-based, nonprofit AIDS fundraising and grant-making organizations. By drawing upon the talents, resources, and generosity of the American theatre community, since 1988 Broadway Cares has raised more than $300 million for essential services for people with HIV/AIDS, COVID-19, and other critical illnesses across the United States.
