The North American tour of the Tony-winning Moulin Rouge! The Musical will now begin performances March 19 at the James M. Nederlander Theatre in Chicago. The show was slated to begin February 26, starring Conor Ryan as Christian and Courtney Reed as Satine.
The schedule change allows producers to delay the start of the rehearsal and production period due to the fast-moving Omicron variant, which has caused a significant number of cancellations and postponements for theatrical endeavors in recent weeks. Ryan and Reed remain a part of the show, with more casting to be announced in the coming weeks.
Directed by Alex Timbers, Moulin Rouge! The Musical has a book by John Logan, choreography by Sonya Tayeh, and music supervision, orchestrations, and arrangements by Justin Levine. The score is primarily comprised of myriad pop hits heard in the 2001 Baz Luhrmann spectacle, plus new chart-toppers released since then.

The Broadway productions resumed in September last year while the London and Australian staging began previews in November. Both have been forced to cancel shows due to the rise of Omicron, with London pushing its press night back to January 20. Additional engagements are still planned for Germany and Japan in the coming years.
