Geffen Playhouse's limited run of The Mountaintop officially opens June 15. The Los Angeles production began previews June 6 for a run though July 9.
Written by Olivier winner and two-time Tony nominee Katori Hall (Tina: The Tina Turner Musical), The Mountaintop is set on April 3, 1968, and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. has returned to his motel after delivering a speech that would go down in history. It will also turn out to be his last night.
Broadway alum Jon Michael Hill (Pass Over) plays King opposite Amanda Warren (Dickinson) as Camae, a maid who delivers both room service and hard truths.
Patricia McGregor (Skeleton Crew) directs the production, which features scenic design by Rachel Myers, costume design by Mylette Nora, lighting design by Lap Chi Chu, sound design by Cricket S. Myers, projection design by Yee Eun Nam, and dramaturgy by Rachel Phillips Epstein. Casting is by Phyllis Schuringa.
