The Best Musical winner continues at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre.

Alex Joseph Grayson Matthew Murphy

Alex Joseph Grayson stepped into the role of Dallas Winston in Broadway's reigning Best Musical The Outsiders earlier this spring, and Playbill has a first look at Grayson in the role.

Grayson succeeded Tony nominee Joshua Boone, who departed the company January 26. Aramie Payton and Daryl Tofa performed the role in the interim.

Grayson most recently appeared on Broadway as Jim Conley in the Tony-winning 2023 revival of Parade, and received a Grammy nomination as a principal soloist for the musical's cast album. His additional Broadway credits include Into the Woods, Girl from the North Country, and A Bronx Tale.

The musical features a book by Adam Rapp with Justin Levine and music and lyrics by Jamestown Revival and Levine.

The Outsiders won the Best Musical Tony Award as well as Best Direction of a Musical (Danya Taymor), Lighting Design (Brian MacDevitt and Hana S. Kim), and Sound Design (Cody Spencer) at the 2024 Tony Awards.

The current cast includes Brody Grant as Ponyboy, Brent Comer as Darrel, Jason Schmidt as Sodapop, Sky Lakota-Lynch (Dear Evan Hansen) as Johnny, Emma Pittman (Chicago) as Cherry Valance, Daryl Tofa (Back to the Future) as Two-Bit Mathews, Kevin William Paul as Bob Sheldon, and Dan Berry as Paul.

Kim; Tony-winning sound design by Cody Spencer; and music direction by Matt Hinkley. Casting is by The TRC Company's Xavier Rubiano.
