Broadway got a new play July 24 as Sandy Rustin's The Cottage officially opened at The Hayes Theater. Broadway stars came out to celebrate the occasion, with Bernadette Peters, Chuck Cooper, Richard Kind, and more among the notables hitting the red carpet. See them and more—including the play's all-star cast—in photos below.
The 16-week limited engagement will continue through October 29—read the reviews here. Tony winner Jason Alexander makes his Broadway directorial debut helming the production.
Inspired by the works of Noël Coward and written by Rustin (Clue), The Cottage is set in the English countryside in 1923 as Sylvia decides to come clean with her affair to both her husband and to her lover’s wife.
The production features scenic design by Paul Tate dePoo III, costume design by Sydney Maresca, lighting design by Jiyoun Chang, sound design by Justin Ellington, and wig, hair, and makeup design by Tommy Kurzman. Lark hackshaw is production stage manager, with Brant Sennett serving as stage manager.
Next year, Carnegie Hall's house band will perform Bernstein’s “Kaddish” Symphony, unfinished works by Schubert, and the final concert of Conductor Bernard Labadie.
