The 2018 Tony nominations were announced May 1 and two original musicals led the pack with the most nominations of the season.

READ THE FULL LIST OF NOMINEES HERE.

Mean Girls and SpongeBob SquarePants, The Broadway Musical each walked away with 12 nods. The Band’s Visit earned 11 nominations, and musical revivals did well, too, with Carousel earning 11, My Fair Lady earning ten, and Once on This Island earning eight. Disney’s Frozen earned three nominations, but they are the big three: Best Musical, Best Original Score, and Best Book of a Musical. And 20 performers were recognized for their work in the ten total musical productions that bowed this 2017–2018 season.

This week’s Playbill Mixtape celebrates the nominated musicals—original and revival—with songs from the scores of nominated shows (although not all of the latest cast albums are available), as well as one-off numbers from previous performances by newly-nominated actors.

2018 Tony Nominees
Think Best Musical nominee SpongeBob’s “Bikini Bottom Day” sung by Leading Actor nominee Ethan Slater. Think “I Could Have Danced All Night” in honor of My Fair Lady. Think “Let It Sing” from Joshua Henry’s previously Tony-nominated performance in Violet now that he’s nominated for Carousel.
