Ghostlight Records has announced that Prince of Broadway, which ran on Broadway from August 24 to October 29, 2017, will see a simultaneous physical, digital, and streaming release April 20. The album was announced with a forthcoming release date in October, when the cast headed into the recording studio.

The cast recording preserves the performances of Prince of Broadway's complete original Broadway cast, including Tony Award winner Chuck Cooper (Caroline, or Change), Janet Dacal (In the Heights, Good Vibrations), Bryonha Marie Parham (After Midnight, Porgy & Bess), Tony Award nominee Emily Skinner (Side Show, The Full Monty), two-time Tony Award nominee Brandon Uranowitz (Falsettos, An American in Paris), Kaley Ann Voorhees (The Phantom of the Opera, Candide), Michael Xavier (Sunset Boulevard), Tony Award nominee Tony Yazbeck (On the Town, Gypsy), and Tony Award winner Karen Ziemba (Contact, Curtains).
Prince of Broadway was a career retrospective of legendary Broadway producer and director Harold Prince, with songs and scenes from many of the shows that earned him 21 Tony Awards, including West Side Story, Fiddler on the Roof, Cabaret, Evita, Company, Follies, A Little Night Music, Sweeney Todd, and The Phantom of the Opera, along with some biographical anecdotes from the man himself.

The show's book was penned by two-time Tony Award nominee David Thompson (The Scottsboro Boys) and featured new songs, arrangements, orchestrations, and music supervision by three-time Tony Award winner Jason Robert Brown. Susan Stroman choreographed and co-directed alongside Prince.
The creative team also included Beowulf Boritt (scenic and projection design), William Ivey Long (costume design), Howell Binkley (lighting design), Jon Weston (sound design), Paul Huntley (hair and wig design), Angelina Avallone (makeup design), Fred Lassen (music director), Tara Rubin Casting (casting), and Jeffrey Seller (creative consultant).
Prince of Broadway was produced on Broadway by Manhattan Theatre Club, with additional funding from The John Gore Organization, James L. Nederlander, THe Shubert Organization, and Kumiko Yoshii. The show had its world premiere in Japan in October 2015, in a production produced by Umeda Arts Theater Co., Ltd., Tokyo Broadcasting System Television, Inc., and Amuse Inc.
