Virginia's Signature Theatre presents the regional premiere of Max Wolf Friedlich's JOB January 28–March 16 in the ARK Theatre. Seen on Broadway earlier this season, the production is directed by Signature Artistic Director Matthew Gardiner.

The two-hander features Eric Hissom (Arena Stage’s Death on the Nile) as Loyd and Jordan Slattery (Signature’s Easy Women Smoking Loose Cigarettes) as Jane with Rachel Brigette Sexton understudying the role of Jane and Keith Richards understudying the role of Loyd. Casting is by Jorge Acevedo.

The play follows a young woman whose breakdown at work has gone viral and must receive an evaluation from a crisis therapist before she can return to her job. During the appointment, secrets emerge as doctor and patient edge toward an epic showdown.

JOB is a tense psychological thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat as it hurdles towards a startling conclusion,” said Gardiner in an earlier statement. “At its heart, JOB is a play about fraught relationships: our relationship to the internet, to social media, and to generations different than our own. I am excited for audiences to experience this harrowing piece in Signature’s intimate ARK space and thrilled to be directing the regional premiere of Max Wolf Friedlich’s exhilarating new play in D.C.”

Friedlich's JOB played the final performance of its extended run at Broadway's Hayes Theater October 27, 2024. Read the production's reviews here. The cast featured Tony nominee Peter Friedman (Ragtime, Succession) and Sydney Lemmon (TÁR, Helstrom) under the direction of Michael Herwitz.

The Signature staging also has scenic design by Luciana Stecconi, costume design by Alexa Cassandra Duimstra, lighting design by Colin K. Bills, and sound design by Kenny Neal. Lauren Pekel is the stage manager, and Miranda Korieth is the production assistant.
