The Old Vic production of Georg Büchner’s Woyzeck celebrated its official opening night May 23 in London. Star Wars: The Force Awakens star John Boyega takes on the title role. Jack Thorne (Let The Right One In, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child) penned the new adaptation, which is set in 1980s Berlin.
The play—infamously left incomplete upon Büchner’s death in 1837—explores the dehumanization caused by authority and the tragic effects it has on a young soldier and his family. The Joe Murphy-helmed staging will run through June 24.
