New Jersey's American Theater Group presents a reading of Peter Filichia's new comedy Larry: The Big-Time Broadway Producer April 29 in Rahway on the Hamilton Stage.
Part of the free Monday Night Play Reading Series, the 7 PM reading is directed by Joe Mancuso. The cast includes Collin Kelly-Sordelet (The Last Ship), Laura Swanson, Keith Strunk, Dawn Gaynor, Samantha Soybel, Paul O’Connor, and William Lawson.
The play follows young Bostonian Larry Greenstein, who wants to invest in Broadway shows. He attends a backers’ audition and falls in love with an actress cast in the play and pledges $10,000—money he doesn’t have.
“This delightful play unlocks the dreamer in all of us, and we are pleased to provide a platform for this new work to be shared,” says ATG Producing Artistic Director Jim Vagias in an earlier statement. “Peter Filichia has been a long-time supporter of ATG, and we are happy to be able to support his work as well.”
Filichia, who appears on the Broadway Radio podcast and has a weekly column for Masterworks Broadway, was the theatre critic for the NJ Star-Ledger
for 20 years. His books include Let's Put on a Musical!: How to Choose the Right Show for Your School, Community or Professional Theater, and Broadway Musicals: the Biggest Hit and the Biggest Flop of the Season, 1959 to 2009.
A Q&A with the playwright and the cast will follow the reading.
