Playbill Universe Reviews: What Did Critics Think of Jerusalem West End Revival?

Reviews are in for the West End revival of Jerusalem, written by Jez Butterworth, which opened at the Apollo Theatre April 28. The limited engagement began previews April 16 and has a limited engagement through August 7.

Starring in the West End return are Mark Rylance and Mackenzie Crook, reprising their roles of Johnny "Rooster" Byron and Ginger, respectively. 

Jerusalem follows Johnny Byron, a wanted man, as he deals with the officials who want to evict him, his son who wants to go to the fair with him, Troy Whitworth who wants revenge, and a crew of mates who wants his supply of drugs and alcohol on the morning the local fair kicks off to celebrate St. George's Day.

The cast also features Kemi Awoderu, Alan David, Shane David-Joseph, Gerard Horan, Ed Kear, Charlotte O’Leary, Indra Ové, Jack Riddiford, Barry Sloane, Niky Wardley, and Eleanor Worthington-Cox, Kobe Champion-Norville, Jesse Manzi, and Matteo Philbert. Abigail Green, Amanda Gordon, Callum Sheridan-Lee, Greg Snowden, and Anthony Taylor serve as understudies.

Ian Rickson directs the production which features the return of the show's original creative team, including designer ULTZ, lighting designer Mimi Jordan Sherin, composer Stephen Warlock, sound designer Ian Dickinson for Autograph, and casting director Amy Ball. The production is presented by Sonia Friedman Productions and the Royal Court Theatre.
