The Tony-nominated revival from Manhattan Theatre Club opened at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre July 7, 2011, and featured Tyne Daly as Maria Callas. The cast also included Sierra Boggess, Alexandra Silber, Jeremy Cohen, Garrett Sorenson, and Clinton Brandhagen.
Master Class tells the story of a mentor session given by the opera diva Maria Callas at The Juilliard School. As students enter her domain, Callas muses on her own life and career as a performer.
The 1995 original production of Master Class won Tony Awards for Best Play, Best Actress in a Play for Zoe Caldwell, and Best Featured Actress in a Play for Audra McDonald.
