Comics master Stan Lee's and Terry Douglas' novel projects William Shakespeare's tragedy of doomed young love into a dystopian future where the genetically enhanced Capulets and the cyborg Montagues turn on each other in the empire of Verona.
Lee's POW! Entertainment is collaborating with Lionsgate and 1821 Media on the project, based on the 2011 book, written by Max Work with illustrations by Skan Srisuwan.
John J. Griffin will adapt the screenplay for Lionsgate, which is best known for the "Hunger Games" movie franchise.
"What a treat it is to finally announce our partnership with Lionsgate on a project," Lee told Variety. "The story of Romeo and Juliet is one of my absolute favorites, and I can’t wait to bring our rendition of this classic to life."
