A musical adaptation of the hit manga and anime Sailor Moon will tour North America later this spring.
Called Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon: The Super Live, the tour continues the growing theatrical exchange between Japan and the United States, following the successful Attack on Titan production at New York City Center in 2024. The Sailor Moon adaptation will visit nearly 20 cities, starting in Pittsburgh March 12. An official opening night will be in Austin, Texas March 15. Touring for one month, the production will end its North American run in New York.
Although commonly referred to as Sailor Moon in the United States, Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon is the direct translation of the anime's Japanese title. Following a group of magical girls who protect the Earth from evil, the series is one of the most popular anime internationally, having been translated into 17 languages, with the manga having sold more than 46 million copies.
Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon's theatrical adaptation features a book and lyrics by Kaori Miura, who also directs, with music by Go Sakabe and KYOHEI, and choreography by Satomi Toma.
Like Attack on Titan, Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon will be performed in Japanese with English supertitles. In addition to the North American tour, a separate production of the Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon musical will play London in February.
Based on Sailor Moon's Dark Kingdom story arc, Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon premiered in Tokyo in 2018, and has since played Paris, Taiwan, Washington DC, and New York in 2019.
