Sandra Oh (Grey’s Anatomy) is making her South Coast Repertory theatre debut in the world premiere of Julia Cho’s Office Hour, about a troubled high school student with violent tendencies. Oh stars as his teacher, the only adult willing to get close.

Cho’s newest work, directed by Neel Keller, was influenced by two real-life high school shootings. Performances began April 10 and are scheduled to run through April 30. The cast also features Raymond Lee, Corey Brill and Sola Bamis.

“He sits in the back of the classroom, wearing dark glasses, a baseball cap pulled down low…never speaking,” state SCR production notes. “His creative writing assignments are violent, twisted—and artless. He scares the other students. He scares the teachers. The kid is trouble. Or is he just mixed up, using his writing to vent, provoke, maybe even protect himself? Gina is the only teacher willing to get close. But at what risk?”

Oh was seen on the New York Stage in the Public Theater's productions of Satellites and Stop Kiss by Diana Son.
