A starry cast has been assembled for a benefit staged reading of Paddy Chayefsky's Oscar-winning screenplay for Network. The reading will be held April 7 at 7:30 PM at The Center at West Park in Manhattan's home, a landmark church located at 165 W 86th St. Oscar winner Tom McCarthy will direct.
The cast will include Scarlett Johansson, Mark Ruffalo, Julianna Margulies, Fisher Stevens, and special guests. The full cast will also participate in a talkback following the performance.
Network premiered in 1976, with stars Peter Finch, Faye Dunaway, and Beatrice Straight receiving Oscars for their performances. The film was later adapted for the stage by Lee Hall, and premiered on Broadway in 2018. Bryan Cranston received a Tony Award for his performance in the play.
The reading is the latest public program in The Center’s Love Our Landmarks: Save West Park Presbyterian Church campaign, created to raise awareness for The Center’s ongoing efforts to protect and preserve its 135-year-old home. The not-for-profit organization manages the church, providing affordable space for students, artists, performers, and local organizations. Proceeds will support The Center’s programs and preservation efforts.
