The musical, featuring a book by Luther Davis and a score by Robert Wright and George Forrest (with additional songs by Maury Yeston), opened on Broadway in 1989, going on to play over a thousand performances. Set in the opulent lobby of a prestigious Berlin hotel, the musical features an ever-revolving door or colorful characters, including the faded ballerina Grushinskaya, a bookkeeper in his last days, and a secretary who dreams of Hollywood stardom.
The musical, a reinvention of Tim Burton’s cult classic film Edward Scissorhands, uses the pop music of Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, Alanis Morissette, and more.
