See the Swashbuckling Characters of Kirsten Childs' New The Three Musketeers Adaptation

Kirsten Childs' adaptation of The Three Musketeers is currently making its world premiere as part of The Acting Company's national tour, in repertory with Romeo and Juliet. The work had a preview presentation at the Queens Theater in New York City October 13-16 ahead of its upcoming New York premiere at New Victory Theater November 11-27. Based on the novel by Alexandre Dumas, the production is directed by Kent Gash. The work draws inspiration from Dumas’ father, General Alex Dumas, the highest-ranking person of Color in a Western military until modern times.

"What excites me about The Three Musketeers is that it is a raucous, dynamic, visceral, exciting production boys sort of growing up into being men and how we need to ultimately take responsibility for each other," said director Gash in a previous statement. "It’s so much about brotherhood and honor and care and then it is just a great adventure story. And I’m really excited that we are adding the perspective of Dumas, the author, who was of Haitian descent. I think people don’t always know that The Three Musketeers springs from a Black imagination. And so I’m really excited to bring that additional layer of dynamic and cultural integrity into the story."

Starring in the company are Toree Alexandre, Zoe Anastassiou, Edwin Brown III, Darius Deon, Sam Encarnación, Max Antonio Gonzalez, Ty Camren Hawthorne, Travis Raeburn, Christopher Then, William Oliver Watkins, Eunice Woods, and Caro Zeller.

The production features scenic design by Ed Haynes, Jr., lighting design by Dawn Chiang, sound and music by Lindsay Jones, costumes by Ann Hould-Ward, fight direction by J. David Brimmer, choreography by Byron Easley, voice and speech coaching by Xavier Clark, casting by Victor Vazquez from X Casting, intimacy coordination by Ann James, and stage management by Melissa Richter.

Preview presentations are also being held at New Jersey Performing Arts Center, KCP Presents Performing Arts Series in Vermont, J. Scheidegger Center for the Arts at Lindenwood University in Missouri, and Gertrude Castellow Ford Center for the Performing Arts at University of Mississippi. Stops following its New York premiere will be made in New Jersey, Virginia, Michigan, Indiana, Iowa, Mississippi, Colorado, New Mexico, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, and Washington.
