Casting is set for the I Fabbristi/Seven Hills Chamber Music concert production of the new chamber opera In Venice, which will be presented September 21 at 6:30 PM and September 22 at 2 PM at The House of the Redeemer.
Directed by Anthony Newfield with music direction by Jackson McKinnon, the cast will feature Patrick Bessenbacher, Teresa Buchholz, Courtney Carey, Amber Evans, Jessica Fishenfeld, and Shavon Lloyd.
Penned by composer Paul Scherer and librettist Germaine Shames, the 90-minute opera combines the Edith Wharton short stories The Muse's Tragedy and The Touchstone.
In Venice follows a young biographer of a renowned poet, who chances upon the poet’s muse while in Venice, and a romance blossoms. Ten years later, the biographer returns with his young socialite wife, having sold his muse’s love letters to pay for the honeymoon. Can a muse inspire the most sublime sonnets in the history of poetry and yet not be loved?
