The complete cast for the Perelman Performing Arts Center premiere of The 1491’s new comedy Between Two Knees has been revealed. Directed by Eric Ting, Between Two Knees is an Oregon Shakespeare Festival and Yale Repertory Theatre production, with performances set to begin February 3, 2024, ahead of a February 13 opening night. The limited engagement will run through February 24.
The Perelman PAC production will feature Rachel Crowl, Derek Garza, Justin Gauthier, Shyla Lefner, Wotko Long, James Ryen, Shaun Taylor-Corbett, and Sheila Tousey. They will be joined by Irma-Estel Laguerre, Jessica Ranville, John Scott-Richardson, Kholan Studi, Ryan Anthony Williams.
The 1491 is an intertribal sketch comedy troupe. Between Two Knees originally premiered at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, and has also played the Yale Repertory Theatre, McCarter Theater, and Seattle Rep. The bold comedy takes a hard look at the effects of systemic oppression long after textbooks typically stop teaching Native history.
The creative team will include choreographer Ty Defoe, scenic designer Regina García, costume designer Lux Haac, lighting designer Elizabeth Harper, sound designer Jake Rodriguez, projection designer Shawn Duan, wig and hair designer Younghawk Bautista, fight director Rod Kinter, and dramaturg Julie Felise Dubiner. Casting is by Tanis Parenteau and Stephanie Yankwitt. Amanda Nita Luke-Sayed is production stage manager.
