Casting has been announced for the West End return of Patrick Barlow's adaptation of The 39 Steps, based on John Buchan's novel and Alfred Hitchcock's film.

As previously reported, Fiery Angel and Trafalgar Theatre Productions will present the London engagement, set for August 16–September 28 at the Trafalgar Theatre with an official opening August 19.

Returning to the West End for the first time since 2015, the seven-week engagement will feature the current U.K. touring cast: Tom Byrne as Richard Hannay; Safeena Ladha as Annabella Schmidt, Pamela, and Margaret; Eugene McCoy as Clown 1; and Maddie Rice as Clown 2 (the first time this production has cast a female-identifying actor as one of the Clowns), with Jacob Daniels and Hannah Parker as the understudies.

Nicola Samer directs the production, which is currently touring the U.K. through August 3. The inventive comedy thriller features four actors playing 139 roles in 100 minutes.

“We cannot think of a better production to delight audiences this summer than with this hilarious, joyous, and quintessentially British adaptation by Patrick Barlow of Alfred Hitchcock’s classic spy thriller," Fiery Angel's Ed Snape said in an earlier statement. "There is nothing quite like sitting in a theatre filled with laughter and this play always delivers.”

The 39 Steps follows handsome hero Richard Hannay as he encounters murders, double-crossing secret agents, and devastatingly beautiful women—all played by the cast of four. The work initially played the West End 2006–2015 and received the 2007 Olivier Award for Best Comedy. A subsequent Broadway production ran 2008–2010, before transferring to New World Stages Off-Broadway.

The creative team includes set and costume designer Peter McKintosh, lighting designer Ian Scott, sound designer Mic Pool, and director of movement Toby Sedgwick. Casting is by Abby Galvin. Maria Aitken directed the original production.
