The mist is clearing! The Shaw Festival has announced the lineup for its holiday show offerings, including a staging of the 2014 revisal of Brigadoon.
The classic, written by Lerner and Loewe in 1947, was revised by librettist Brian Hill in 2014 for a Chicago world premiere. The Shaw Festival previously performed a version of this revisal in 2019, making them the second company to stage the revisal, after Chicago's Goodman Theatre. Brigadoon is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI), who handles licensing for the involved estates. The revisal has not yet been made available for public licensing.
Brigadoon will play the Shaw Festival beginning November 15 for a run through December 23. Featuring music by Frederick Loewe, lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner, original dances by Agnes DeMille, and Hill's revised book based on Lerner's original, the Shaw Festival production will be directed by Glynis Leyshon with original choreography by Linda Garneau.
The production will star Stewart Adam McKensy as Tommy Albright, Kevin McLachlan as Jeff Douglas, and Alexis Gordon as Fiona. They will be joined by Kristi Frank as Meg Brockie, Madelyn Kriese as Jean MacLaren, David Andrew Reid as Charlie Dalrymple, and David Adams as Archie Beaton, Head of Clan.
The ensemble will consist of Alexandra Gratton, Jane Johanson, Claire Jullien, Graeme Kitagawa, Jawon Mapp, Peter Millard, Drew Plummer, Jade Repeta, Travis Seetoo, Genny Sermonia, Jay Turvey, Kelly Wong, and Jenny L. Wright.
Additional creative team members include music director Paul Sportelli, set designer Pam Johnson, costume designer Sue LePage, lighting designer Kevin Lamotte, projection designer Corwin Ferguson, sound designer John Lott, associate choreographer Matt Alfano, and fight director John Stead.
Additionally, the Festival will again present its perennial staging of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol November 5–December 23. Adapted and originally directed by Tim Carroll, this year it will be directed by Brendan McMurtry-Howlett and feature set and costume design by Christine Lohre, lighting design by Kevin Lamotte, original music by Paul Sportelli, and original movement and puppetry direction by Alexis Milligan.
Sanjay Talwar will be Ebenezer Scrooge, joined by Élodie Gillett as the Ghost of Christmas Past, Shawn Wright as the Ghost of Christmas Present, Jason Cadieux as Mr. Hubble, Marlene Ginader as Belle, Patty Jamieson as Mrs. Dilber, Andrew Lawrie as Bob Cratchit, Jonathan Tan as Fred, Jacqueline Thair as Mrs. Cratchit, and Kiana Woo as Emily.
