Regional News Shoba Narayan and Austin Colby to Star in Broadway-Bound Come Fall in Love - The DDLJ Musical

Based on the Bollywood film Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, The Old Globe production has announced its cast and creative team for the world premiere.

San Diego's Tony-winning theatre The Old Globe, in association with Yash Raj Films, has announced the cast and creative team for its previously announced world premiere production of Come Fall in Love – The DDLJ Musical. Based on the Bollywood film Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, the new musical will begin performances September 1 with a run through October 16. Opening night is set for September 14.

Come Fall in Love will follow Simran, a young Indian-American woman who spends a summer in Europe before she has to go to India for her arranged marriage to a family friend. While there, she meets Rog, an American man, and the two fall in love, leaving Simran to navigate her heart, future, and identity in this adaptation of Chopra's Bollywood film.

Starring in the production will be Shoba Narayan (Aladdin) as Simran, Austin Colby (Frozen) as Rog Mandel, Irvine Iqbal (Aladdin) as Baldev, Rupal Pujara (In the Heights) as Lajjo, Vishal Vaidya (Road Show) as Ajit, Siddharth Menon (Aladdin) as Kuljt, Kate Loprest (First DateHairspray) as Emily “Minky” Soulard, Juice Mackins (The Prom) as Ben, Hannah Jewel Kohn (Frozen) as Cookie, and Jeremy Kushnier (Footloose) as Roger Mandel, Sr.

Joining the ensemble are Amita Batra (Unearthed: Untold Stories of the Ramayana), Neha Dharmapuram, Tiffany Engen (Legally Blonde), Rohit Gijare (Bollywood Blvd), Marc Heitzman (Bandstand), Usman Ali Ishaq (Rent), Nika Lindsay (Frozen), Ilda Mason (West Side Story), Caleb Mathura (Jesus Christ Superstar), Meher Mistry (Beauty and the Beast), Shannon Mullen (A Bronx Tale), Shahil Patel (Fairycakes), Zain Patel (Bhangin’ It: A Bangin’ New Musical), Becca Petersen (Mean Girls), Kinshuk Sen (Much Ado About Nothing), Jack Sippel (The Prom), Michael Starr (Bright Star), Geatali Tampy (Bollywood Blvd), and Sonya Venugopal (Evita).

The original film's director Aditya Chopra will direct the stage adaptation, with choreography by Rob Ashford (Frozen), book and lyrics by Nell Benjamin (Legally Blonde), and music composed by Indian songwriters Vishal Dadlani and Sheykhar Ravjiani. The creative team will also feature set design by Emmy and Tony winner Derek McLane (MJ The Musical), costume design by Tony winner Linda Cho (A Gentlemen’s Guide to Love and Murder), lighting design by five-time Tony nominee Japhy Weideman (Dear Evan Hansen), sound design by Tony winner Jessica Paz (Hadestown), and projection design by Akhila Krishnan (Our Generation). Music supervision, orchestrations, and arrangements are by David Holcenberg (MJ The Musical), with music direction by Ted Arthur (Diana).

Casting is by Duncan Stewart (Hadestown) and Yash Raj Films casting head Shanoo Sharma (Ek Tha Tiger). Anjee Nero (Almost Famous) will be production stage manager. Adam Zotovich (The Color Purple) serves as executive producer. Following The Old Globe production, Yash Raj Films will produce the musical for Broadway.

Chopra made his film directing debut with Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, which premiered in 1995 and continues to run in cinemas throughout India and places home to members of the Indian diaspora. The film is the longest-running movie in Indian cinema history.
