The Stage Managers' Association has announced the 2023 Del Hughes Awards recipients. Instituted in 1986, the award is named after the Broadway and television stage manager and director whose career spanned from 1933 to the 1970s. The awards will be presented November 6 during a ceremony at the National Opera Center’s Marc A. Scorca Hall.
This year's Lifetime Achievement honorees are theatrical production stage managers John M. Atherlay and Gwen Gilliam and opera production stage manager Brett Finley.
In addition to the annual Lifetime Achievement awards, this year's Special Recognition awards will celebrate honorees who are steadfast advocates for the stage manager industry. Robert J. Bruyr has been named this year's Special Recognition recipient, as well as the organization Broadway and Beyond: Access for Stage Managers of Color, founded by Lisa Dawn Cave, Beverly Jenkins, Jimmie Lee Smith, and Kenneth J. McGee. Elynmarie Kazle will also be honored with the Founders Award.
The ceremony will be held at 6:30 PM. Virtual tickets are available here.
