The York Theatre Company wraps its 2016 Musicals in Mufti winter series with a revival of the Maltby & Shire revue Starting Here, Starting Now, beginning March 12 and running through March 20. The three-member cast features Krystal Joy Brown (Motown, The Musical), Charlotte Maltby (Empire) and Bobby Conte Thornton (A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum).
Continuing with the "mufti" theme, the 1977 show is receiving a pared-down, book-in-hand concert staging at the York Theatre Company at Saint Peter’s.
Starting Here, Starting Now features music by David Shire with lyrics and direction by Richard Maltby, Jr. The York bills the musical as a “bold, extroverted revue“ that examines romantic relationships. It includes songs from the team's musicals that closed out of town or had short runs. Maltby & Shire's later shows have included Closer Than Ever, Baby, Take Flight and Big. Working with others, Maltby supplied lyrics for Nick & Nora and English lyrics for Miss Saigon.
Tickets, starting at $45, can be purchased by visiting YorkTheatre.org or by calling (212) 935-5820.
