The ASCAP Foundation is now accepting applications for its Musical Theatre Workshop programs, to take place at Los Angeles' Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts. The series, led by Oscar winner and Tony recipient Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, The Prince of Egypt), gives composers and lyricists the opportunity to develop and present works in progress and meet with professionals across several disciplines in the industry.
The workshop, presented in partnership with Universal Theatrical Group, will take place the week of July 17. Free tickets will be available to the public for the open sessions beginning June 30 at TheWallis.org.
Submissions must contain a CD of four songs, lyric sheets, descriptions of each song and how they fit within the musical's plot, a musical synopsis, and biographical and contact information for the writers. Packets will be accepted through April 30.
For more information on how to apply, visit ASCAP.com.
The new musical is celebrating the box office opening at the Nederlander with an offer for fans to get $20 tickets, harkening back to Rent's first-of-its-kind ticket lottery.
The new trailer showcases the scale of the production design, as well as a first listen to the power ballad "Waiting on a Wish," one of the new original songs by Pasek and Paul.
