The Guggenheim Museum will present the world premiere of Third Bird, a new work which features a libretto and direction by Isaac Mizrahi and music by Nico Muhly. Performances are set for Jun3-5 in the museum's Peter B. Lewis Theater.
Starring will be Mizrahi as Narrator, Marjorie Folkman as Duck, Christine Flores as Bird, Ramona Kelley as Zookeeper, Lindsey Jones as Cat, Daniel Pettrow as Ostrich, Derrick Arthur as Ornithologist, Norton Owen as Grandfather, and Gus Solomons Jr. as Moon.
Third Bird, commissioned by Works & Process, is an homage to Sergei Prokofiev's Peter & the Wolf which Mizrahi has directed and narrated as part of Works & Process since 2007. The fashion designer has worked as a performer, writer, designer, director, and producer, including designing costumes for Broadway revivals of The Women, Barefoot in the Park, and Threepenny Opera, and also directed productions of A Little Night Music and The Magic Flute at the Opera Theatre of St. Louis.
Music for the show will be played by Ensemble Signal and conducted by Brad Lubman. Third Bird will also feature choreography by John Heginbotham, and lighting design by Brandon Stirling Baker.
