The Essence: A Yiddish Theatre Dim Sum, previously seen in Europe and at the New York International Fringe Festival, arrives Off-Broadway for a four-performance engagement January 7–12 at Theatre 154.

Actor and director Allen Lewis Rickman shares the stage with Yelena Shmulenson for this irreverent journey through the legacy of Yiddish theatre. They are joined onstage by Steve Sterner, who also serves as the show’s musical director.

This mixture of scenes, sketches, and songs is performed in English and Yiddish with English supertitles.

The Essence is presented by the Congress for Jewish Culture. A longer Off-Broadway production is in the works for later in 2025.
