The entire cast of Chorus Line
My first Broadway musical. You always remember the first of pretty much everything. It was perfect. In the years to come, I would work with many of the cast members.
My first Broadway play. A movie star and his wife in a funny adaption by Larry Gelbart of a classic I read in graduate school.
Brilliant physical comedy.
James Corden in One Man, Two Guvnors
Another brilliant physical comedian. I have never ever laughed so much in my life.
Lee Roy Reams in La Cage at Paper Mill Playhouse
There's no one with better presence that Lee Roy, the pride of Kentucky. A fun show with a great moral.
Harry Groener in Crazy For You
Harry was my student when I taught at San Francisco City College. It was a proud maternal moment.
Whoopi Goldberg in her one woman show Whoopi Goldberg
I saw her Moms Mabley show in San Francisco and was happy for her success. A cast of characters and a white petticoat.
I shared a dressing room at Lincoln Center with the legend. She exuded class, but was a great broad at the same time. I was proud to know her.
Tyne Daly in Gypsy
I saw her on The Tonight Show saying she had never done a musical but was cast as Rose in the upcoming production. She took on the greatest female vocalist role (I've done it) and nailed it. I admire courage.
Mary Martin in "Peter Pan"
O.K., it's the televised version of the show, but I was a kid and it made such a lasting impression on a small town girl from Modesto that years later when I met her I could not speak. It was right after her car accident so the meeting was extra special.
