Susan Stroman picked up her 15th Tony Award nomination May 2, for choreographing the new Broadway musical New York, New York. The nod is the director-choreographer's 11th for choreography, making her the most Tony-nominated choreographer in Broadway history alongside the late Bob Fosse. In a notable coincidence, Stroman achieved this feat over exactly 31 years of Tony Awards, as did Fosse.

Stroman kicked off her Tony career with a Best Choreography win in 1992, for Crazy for You, going on to receive additional nominations for her choreography in Big, Steel Pier, The Music Man, Oklahoma!, The Scottsboro Boys, and Bullets Over Broadway; and wins for Show Boat, Contact, and The Producers. As a director, Stroman received nominations for Contact, The Music Man, and The Scottsboro Boys; and won for The Producers.

Fosse's 11 choreography nominations cover every show he choreographed, including Chicago, Pippin, Dancin', Sweet Charity, and others. He was a nine-time winner, almost solely for his work as a choreographer. His lone win for directing came in 1973 for Pippin. 

Stroman wasn't the only Broadway artist to get a historic Tony nomination this year; Audra McDonald got her 10th nomination for her work in Ohio State Murders, making her now tied with Julie Harris and Chita Rivera as the most Tony-nominated female performer. With six wins, McDonald already holds the record for the most competitive Tony wins.
