Scheduled to be part of the evening are Tony winner Tonya Pinkins, Brian Murray, Jay O. Sanders, Nilaja Sun, James Williams, Peter Francis James, Miriam A. Hyman and Devin Haqq.

The plays, which were written by groups of teenagers from The Agahozo Shalom Youth Village, The iThemba Labantu Community Center and The Akeri School, are the products of theatre workshops conducted by U.S. theatre artists from ITLP who travel to Africa each summer to teach playwriting and performance workshops for young people.

The reading will be directed by ITLP artistic director Stephen DiMenna, and the evening will conclude with a musical performance by Tony winner Pinkins.

ITLP is described as "a non-profit organization that uses theatre as a means of social uplift for children living with the challenges of poverty, crime, violence, gender inequity and inequality in developing countries. ITLP conducts theatre workshops to teach English, develop independent thinking, self-empowerment and gender equity, to help young people advance their educational and employment opportunities and to nurture their voices as leaders who can enable change and community development."

A reception will kick off the evening at 6:30 PM followed by the 7:30 PM reading. A short documentary film about ITLP programs in South Africa will be screened following the reading.
