The Flea has announced that The Ritual of Breath Is the Rite to Resist, a transdisciplinary opera, will be presented as part of Lincoln Center's Summer for the City series, in collaboration with Hopkins Center for the Arts at Dartmouth.

The Ritual of Breath is a collaboration between composer Jonathan Berger, visual artist Enrico Riley, and poet and librettist Vivee Francis, with contributions by Dr. Shamell Bell. The work responds to the 2014 murder of Eric Garner, and centers on Garner's daughter, Erica. The piece will be performed at Lincoln Center's Damrosch Park July 19, coinciding with the 10-year commemoration of Garner's death.

The Flea Artistic Director Niegel Smith directs the production, with choreography by Jawole Willa Jo Zollar, founder of Urban Bush Woman. Kamna Gupta will conduct. The event is free and open to the public.
