Tony and Emmy winner Hal Linden (The Rothschilds, Barney Miller, The Scottsboro Boys) and TV veteran Bernie Kopell (The Love Boat, Get Smart, That Girl) will star in the world premiere of Ed. Weinberger's new comedy Two Jews, Talking.
Obie winner Dan Wackerman will direct the open-ended run at Off-Broadway's Theatre at St. Clement’s. Previews begin August 20 prior to an official opening August 28.
The two one-act plays bring Lou and Bud together in the Biblical past and Phil and Marty together in contemporary Long Island. They philosophize about women, sex, food, the divine, and destiny in this tale of companionship and friendship.
“After three years of COVID, it’s time to laugh again,” says director Wackerman. “Hal Linden and Bernie Kopell are just what the doctor ordered. They are truly masters of comedy, and it’s an honor and a pleasure to be directing them in an original play by the legendary Ed. Weinberger–a name synonymous with some of the greatest comedies in the history of television. We New Yorkers need and deserve a show like this!”
The production will also feature scenic and lighting design by Harry Feiner and sound design by Trevor Trotto. The production stage manager is Catrina Kopell, and the assistant stage manager is Jacqueline Perez.
Weinberger wrote and produced for The Mary Tyler Moore Show and co-created Taxi, Dear John, and The Cosby Show. He also executive-produced and created Amen, Sparks, and Good News. Emmy winner Weinberger is also the author of the solo play A Man and His Prostate, which starred the late Ed Asner and toured nationally.
The new trailer showcases the scale of the production design, as well as a first listen to the power ballad "Waiting on a Wish," one of the new original songs by Pasek and Paul.
